Plans and activities in primary school no 143

What has been done so far... Second part of the “Safe school, safe street” programme in Primary School no. 143.
Teachers, pupils and their parents were given first aid training in order to feel safe on the street.

Planned work and activities for the next phase
September - December 2008
  • September 2008 – meeting with council representatives of the district of Praga Południe in order to present the issues concerning safety and increase pupil awareness of personal safety in and around school, as well as on the way to school.
  • December 2008 – artistic programme for parents.
  • “Safe school, safe street” lessons.
  • Meeting with the police for all interested parents and teachers. The meeting was related to the issue of safe streets.
  • 5 and 6 March – educational conference, during which the RoSaCe project was presented. The pupils of Primary School no. 143 prepared a short performance on the issue of safe streets.
  • At the end of the RoSaCe project, several lessons will be held to assess and evaluate the project. The pupils will have an opportunity to present their own ideas about how to improve the project and how it could function in the future.

Involvement of new actors and community:
  • September 2008 – contact with the parents’ association in order to discuss different issues linked to the “Safe school, safe street” artistic programme.
  • December 2008 – contact with all services responsible for safety and security (Traffic Division of Warsaw Police Department, Juvenile Crime Division of Warsaw Police Station, Rescue Division of Polish Scouts, Fire Fighters Division).

Dissemination: posters, invitations, leaflets, information in the local press. 

LPG meetings and status
Date/s: September 2008 – meeting of the school coordinator with representatives of the parents’ association of Primary School no. 143. 
Participants: representatives of the parents’ association with schoolteachers coordinating the work. 
Main points on the agenda: discussion relating to the artistic programme.
 Selection of people responsible for the programme and its individual elements. 

School activities during this period
Name of the school: Primary School no. 143, Aleja Stanow, Zjednoczonych 27
Class/age: two first-year classes, one second-year class and one third-year class (pupils between seven and ten years of age).
Brief description of the activities: involvement of the school (pupils and their parents) in the organisation of the “Safe school, safe street” artistic programme. Different kinds of activities were coordinated by teachers, including an art competition and a road traffic quiz.
Evaluation/impressions: the level of pupils’ knowledge of the Highway Code is very low. It is necessary to educate pupils about the issue.
RoSaCe Week
  • 5 and 6 March, educational conference, PERSPEKTYWY International Education Fair for all schools taking part in the project. This is the biggest education fair in Central and Eastern Europe, and it is where we held our RoSaCe week.
  • 25 or 26 April 2009, a picnic for all schools taking part in the project. The picnic will take place in one of the parks in Warsaw.
    We plan to invite the police, the city guard and the fire brigade.
  • Each school will present its artistic programme relating to the project.
  • The police will give two prevention displays.
  • The whole event will be hosted by a well-known actor.
  • Schools participating in the project will set up stands presenting the work of the pupils.
